Emilia Clarke's Reaction After Learning Daenerys' Fate Is All Of Us

"I’m flabbergasted. Absolutely never saw that coming."

It's over. There is no more. No more Game Of Thrones.

Wow… That was really hard to write.

This means today isn't any old Tuesday - it's the Tuesday after the finale which means every fan and critic is sharing their opinion on the shock final moments. Including the actors.

When Emilia Clarke learned of Daenerys Targaryen’s fate two years ago she practically had a breakdown. She told Entertainment Weekly of her reaction:

“What, what, what, WHAT!?"

After spending seven seasons becoming the The Unburnt, Breaker Of Chains etc then a sudden flip into the Mad Queen who was murdered by her love Jon Snow, Clarke could not understand her character’s arc.

“Because it comes out of f**king nowhere. I’m flabbergasted. Absolutely never saw that coming.”

She told the publication she took a five-hour walk around London and cried in order to "digest the news":

"Now finally people are going, 'Oh, now we understand why this season hit you hard.'

"I had no idea what to expect for this last season. I hoped for some juicy things to get into, as I always do for each season, but I didn’t see this coming.

"Throughout the show there have been these glorious moments of Daenerys taking on a very strong role in a battle or in a decision to be made. There were these wonderful moments when she takes control, and it’s really liberating and beautiful.

"She frees people, she kills the baddies, and it feels good."

When looking at the reasoning behind her sudden transformation into the Mad Queen, Clarke believes it's Missandei’s death that “breaks her completely” after years of pressure.

Clarke says Dany was literally was brought into this world going: "‘Run!’ These f**kers have f**ked everything up, and now it’s ‘You’re our only hope.'

“There’s so much she’s taken on in her duty in life to rectify, so much she’s seen and witnessed and been through and lost and suffered and hurt.

"Suddenly these people are turning around and saying, ‘We don’t accept you.’

“But she’s too far down the line. She’s killed so many people already. I can’t turn this ship around. It’s too much.”

As much as some fans cannot accept this season - about 1,311,285 to be exact, which is the number of fans who have signed a petition to rewrite the ending - Clarke says she now accepts Dany's fate as the villain.

“I stand by Daenerys. I stand by her! I can’t not."
