Here’s your first look at the Downton Abbey movie
The movie spin-off of Downton Abbey has started filming - and here's the pics to prove it!
The beloved TV show hasn’t been on screens since 2016, so fans were collectively clutching their pearls at the news of a movie reboot.
Now thanks to the magic of Instagram, the Downton cast have been sharing their behind-the-scenes snaps from the set.
While the pics don’t give anything away re: the film’s plot, they’re certainly building anticipation for our long-awaited reunion with Lady Mary and the gang.
Most of the main cast have confirmed their involvement, including Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Dame Maggie Smith (the Dowager Countess), Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), Allen Leech (Branson), Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore), Elizabeth McGovern (Lady Cora) and Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley).
The biggest name missing so far is Lily James (Rose), who wrapped her storyline before the end of the TV series and confirmed she won't be taking part.
And while reports of (our fave) Rob James-Collier reprising his role as the villainous butler Thomas Barrow have been popping up, we haven’t seen any official confirmation of his attachment.
Rob told the Mirror last year that playing the iconic role actually hurt his acting career, and he didn’t and any roles post-Downton for a long time:
“I think audiences in the US can identify quite easily with the quintessential English gent and English lady, whereas a neurotic, dark, gay character like Thomas is a hard thing to put into the American market. It can lead to typecasting.
“Because Thomas Barrow is gay and is, essentially, the bad guy for much of the show, a lot of people within the industry can only see you as that. They might not be in a rush to see you as a heterosexual love interest. That takes time.”
We actually need this so we're hoping he has a change of heart!
