Little Mix frontwoman Jesy Nelson has revealed she attempted suicide after years of online bullying.
Speaking to The Guardian, Jesy said constant trolling in the wake of Little Mix’s 2011 X Factor win was the worst time of her life.
“I just remember thinking this is never going to go. I’m going to constantly wake up and feel sad for the rest of my life. So what is the point in being here? I physically couldn’t tolerate the pain any more,” she told the publication.
Jesy’s ordeal and slow recovery is the focus of her new documentary, Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out. Nelson said before shooting the biopic, she had never spoken publicly about her struggles, but hopes opening up will raise awareness of the effect online bullying can have on young people.
She also told the publication if she had known the consequences appearing on X Factor would have, she wouldn’t have done it.
“I don’t think anything is worth your happiness, and it was a lot of my life that I won’t get back.”

The star said she was shocked by the cruelty of people who chose to target her online, and became addicted to reading the criticism.
“You have no idea the effect that one comment will have. It only got worse when I got Twitter. And that led to the Daily Mail, and reading the comments – the worst you can read about yourself.”
Thankfully, Jesy says the support of her loved ones and speaking to a therapist has helped her turn around her mental health and keep a positive outlook.
“Don’t get me wrong, I still have days when I feel s**t in myself but instead of beating myself up about it and being miserable, I think: ‘OK, I’m going to have my moment of being sad, and I’ll be over it.’
“Now I’m mentally a lot happier, I just think people are always going to have an opinion. But I only care about mine.”
