Nike Introduce Plus-Size Mannequins And It’s About Bloody Time
Global sportswear brand Nike has shaken itself awake as if from a long slumber and realised that they have customers in all shapes and sizes.
As is - unfortunately - standard in clothing stores, Nike’s mannequins have historically depicted a single body archetype for women - a disproportionately thin and tall size 0.
Which, surprise, surprise, is not exactly an accurate reflection of customers.
But the activewear retailer has shucked tradition, unveiling a new lineup of curvy mannequins for the first time in the store’s history.
Nike’s flagship store in London first unveiled the new range of ‘plus-size’ mannequins on Wednesday, on a special floor dedicated to their women’s line.
NikeTown says the third level of the store also features “a full range of athlete figures” with “multiple plus sized and para-sports mannequins” - also for the first time in the store’s history, to cater to customers living with disability.
“To celebrate the diversity and inclusivity of sport, the space will not just celebrate local elite and grassroot athletes through visual content, but also show Nike plus size and para-sport mannequins for the first time on a retail space,” Nike said in a press release, according to CNN.
We hope to see more sporting and fashion brands follow suit. On ya Nike.
