Sam Thaiday doesn't want to watch the NRL grand final
He played his last game against the St. George Dragons at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday
Sam Thaiday called into Nova Brisbane's Ash, Kip & Luttsy after his last NRL game on Sunday.
The Broncos suffered a crushing defeat against the St. George Dragons in the finals, losing at Suncorp Stadium 48 - 18.
It was a far-cry from last week's game against the Manly Sea Eagles, where the Broncos beat them 48 - 16, to make it into the finals.
“Now I don’t get another chance to don that Broncos jersey and run out onto that stadium," Sam told Ash, Kip & Luttsy.
“The last official home game against Manly was such a fantastic, spectacular game… that’s something I’m really going to remember.”
Sam announced his retirement from professional rugby league halfway through this season, and hit the landmark 300 games in that time.
“It has been such a fantastic ride, a journey over such a long period time and I’m one of the lucky ones, an average rugby league career is three years and 33 games," Sam said.
"I’ve played for 15 years and over 300 games for my club, so I won’t complain.”
“It was my last game of rugby league, I’m sure at some point I’ll play some old boys games that won’t be as spectacular as some of my other games throughout my career. But on a professional level to know it’s all done and dusted, it’s gonna take a couple of days to sink in," Sam said.
Sam also revealed that he doesn't want to watch the finals...
"I don’t know if I really want to watch the Grand Final. I know that I’ve gotta go down there, they do a big ceremony down there for retired players. But yeah, that’s gonna be hard sitting down in the stands.”
