Josh also spoke about working with Emma Watson and if she is as flawless in real life. Josh said:
“She is effortlessly beautiful. That applies to both the exterior and the interior she is one of the most incredible human beings I’ve ever met. To have at the centre of this film, this female heroine who essentially is fearlessly independent, ferociously smart….. To be able to share a character like that with my own daughters, a character who saves the Prince multiple times during the movie, that’s a thrill.”
Josh Gad’s character made headlines when it was revealed that he would play Disney’s first-ever gay character. In an interview with Attitude Magazine, director Bill Condon said LeFou’s role in the film is breaking new ground when it comes to LGBT visibility on-screen.
LeFou will get his own small but very significant subplot when it comes to his sexuality.
“LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston.
He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realising that he has these feelings. And josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice exclusively gay moment in a Disney Movie.”
Beauty and the Beast hits cinemas this Thursday, March 23rd!
